I know plenty of artist bio’s start with, “I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember…” and as trite and overused as it is, for me it’s true. My grandmother was an accomplished oil and pastel artist in South Texas, and since she took care of me a lot, had me drawing and painting in a high chair while she worked. However, my road to tattooing as a profession is not as glamorous as many you will hear. Aside from a great uncle with a World War II hula girl on one forearm and a palm tree on the other, no one in my family was tattooed. I was always attracted to the element of danger tattoos represented, between that and the exposure to them I got while playing in bands, I really fell in love with tattoos.
I did a formal apprenticeship with the legendary Cap Szumski of Timeless Tattoo in Atlanta, Georgia. Working at Timeless was a great experience. I will always be grateful for all I learned from such an incredible tattooer and businessman. After working and learning from some of the most phenomenal artists in the Atlanta area, I moved back to Texas to work at The Austin Tattoo Company with Keith Underwood.
Being around Keith and his endless supply of knowledge and tattoo history has been a truly great experience. My time in Austin has further shaped and influenced the way I approach tattooing. And now, it’s on to the next chapter in this journey, at Electric Ladyland Tattoo in New Orleans, Louisiana on historic Frenchman Street. I am beyond excited to be working at such an iconic and renown shop, with another solid crew of artists.
I enjoy all styles of tattooing and I love the classic street shop environment, where every tattoo is something different. Aside from tattooing I enjoy painting, sculpture and installation art in various forms. My beautiful wife Sarah Grace and I enjoy collecting mid century modern furniture, BBQs and spending time with our 3 dogs, family and close friends.
I would love to talk to you about your next tattoo. Feel free to come by the shop or contact me through the web site.
